NASA Satellite Load Cells
.
NASA's Suomi NPP satellite features five meteorological instruments. Commissioned by Raytheon, FUTEK designed two cryogenic load cells for the Visible Infrared Radiometer Imaging Suite (VIIRS) on the satellite.
.
How does it work :
- NASA's Suomi NPP satellite, in conjunction with the VIIRS instrument, is driving new advances in weather and environmental monitoring.
- FUTEK specifically worked with Raytheon to develop two cryogenic load cells to operate in orbit in the VIIRS instrument.
- The application requirements called for a double deck, for cryogenic temperatures down to -184°C (-300°F), vacuum resistance, shock and vibration testing, and the ability to operate after launch.
