Multi-Axis Sensor - MSL Mars Rover Cryogenic Multi-Axis
.
FUTEK has been commissioned by NASA to develop a cryogenic multi-axis sensor for use in the Curiosity robotic arm. This sensor is responsible for measuring the torsion and force applied during the operation of the arm.
.
How does it work :
- Many applications require custom solutions. So when NASA contacts us, it's obvious that an ordinary product sitting on a shelf won't meet the need. But since we are in the business of providing solutions, if there is a desire, there is a way for FUTEK to design and develop the sensor needed for the task. And that's exactly what we did.
- For the MSL Mars Rover Curiosity mission, FUTEK was commissioned by NASA JPL to develop a three-component cryogenic space and flight qualified sensor. Capable of measuring torque and force, this sensor operates in the rover's robotic arm. As the arm maneuvers, the multi-axis sensor provides feedback to the operating device by identifying the levels of torque and force applied. The need for this multi-axis sensor is to alert the rover to excessive force on the arm.
